APW - Waltham, Vanguard with rare Santa Fe Railway System dial, 23J, Model 1892, 18S, gold-filled OF recase with attractive engraving detail to rear, "Santa Fe Railway System Standard Dial. Waltham." marked Montgomery white enamel SS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, diamond endstone, jeweled barrel, checkerboard center pattern nickel damascene, s#18105881. A rare and eye-catching early Montgomery dial variant, Henry S. Montgomery was the general watch inspector of the Santa Fe Railway systems.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, some typical fine to micro-fine scratches; dial with scattered hls and with a small fractured segment below seconds-register at 31 minutes; excellent hands of mismatched color, hour is plum colored, minute and seconds-hand are blue; case shows light wear, ding to band near 2, reduced engraving detail, thin sliver of wear to brass to lower portion of bezel adjacent perimeter reeding, small bits of wear to brass to high point of central ridge of pendant, inner case rear with wear to brass around its central portion; tight bow, crown shows medium wear; good glass crystal.
